Wilton, NY – A graduate of Hadley-Luzerne High School is making headlines for all the wrong reasons after being arrested in a frightening incident involving a weapon on Jones Road in Wilton this past Friday.

Matthew L. Snowball, 48, originally from the Hadley-Luzerne area and a member of the Hadley-Luzerne Class of 1994, was taken into custody by the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office after allegedly threatening another individual with what appeared to be a deadly weapon. The call came in around 5:08 p.m. and triggered an urgent law enforcement response to 214 Jones Road.

Snowball now faces multiple charges, including:

  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree (Class D Felony)

  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree (Misdemeanor)

  • Menacing in the 2nd Degree (Misdemeanor)

According to investigators, Snowball, who has prior criminal convictions, is accused of intentionally placing another person in fear of serious injury or death by displaying a dangerous instrument or what appeared to be a firearm. His actions, authorities say, were not only unlawful—but chilling.

A former classmate who requested to remain anonymous said, “Back in high school, he was the guy who always had a story, always had a spark. But no one could have predicted this. It’s like something out of a movie.”

After his arrest, Snowball was arraigned by the Hon. Chad Jerome in Wilton Town Court and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail without bail due to the severity of the charges and his criminal history.

The once-familiar face from Hadley-Luzerne’s hallways now finds himself at the center of a case raising questions about public safety, mental health, and what causes someone to spiral from small-town roots to a jail cell.

Officials are continuing their investigation and encourage anyone with additional information related to the case to come forward.
