Residents in the southern Warren County communities of Hadley, Lake Luzerne, Stony Creek, and the Town of Day should be aware of a recent arrest involving a registered sex offender who authorities say failed to follow New York State reporting laws.
According to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Jonathan Licata, 54, of Lake Luzerne, was arrested and charged with two felony counts under New York State Corrections Law for allegedly failing to comply with requirements of the New York State Sex Offender Registry Act (SORA).
Investigators say Licata, who is classified as a Level 2 registered sex offender, did not report or update social media accounts within the required 10-day timeframe, which is mandatory under New York law for individuals listed on the registry.
Under state law, registered offenders must notify authorities of any internet identifiers or social media accounts they use. Failure to do so is considered a felony offense.
Authorities state Licata’s Level 2 classification stems from a 2007 conviction in Dutchess County involving possession of child sexual abuse material.
The case is being handled by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, and charges remain accusations until proven in court.
Local officials emphasize that registry compliance laws exist so law enforcement can maintain accurate records and monitor individuals who are required to report their online activity.
Residents with concerns or information related to registry compliance can contact the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
