A Lake Luzerne man, who was already a fugitive from justice, has been charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael H. Vittum Sr., 38, of 98A Gage Hill Road, Lake Luzerne, was arrested on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, and charged with second-degree sexual conduct against a child, a felony. Authorities confirmed that the victim was someone Vittum was familiar with.

Fugitive Status & Criminal Background

Investigators also revealed that Vittum has been wanted in Provo, Utah, since 1995 for absconding from parole following a felony forgery conviction.

While Vittum is currently facing charges in New York, he will also be extradited to Utah once his case in Warren County is resolved.

Due to his fugitive status, he will not be eligible for release from jail, even if bail—set at $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond—is posted.

Vittum remains in custody while legal proceedings move forward in New York. Law enforcement officials emphasize the importance of reporting suspected abuse and remaining vigilant to keep communities safe.
